Ricardo turned professional in 1986 having formerly been a caddie in his native Argentina. He played professionally in South America and in Africa, eventually securing his European Tour card in 1999 after finishing 5th on the Challenge Tour in the previous year. His first win on the European Tour was in 2001 when he won the Omega European Masters having led from start to finish. He went on to win the Telefonica Open de Madrid in 2003 and the following spring he won the Open de Sevilla carrying on his success in Spanish tournaments!

During the next five years, Ricardo played well and retained his card each year but there were no wins until July 2009 when he won the SAS Masters at Barseback Golf and Country Club, Malmo, Sweden.

The next four years he finished inside the Race to Dubai cut off mark but in 2014 he finished in 131st position. However, displaying the resolve for which he is known, Ricardo went to Qualifying School Final Stage where he finished in second place securing his card on the European Tour for the 17th consecutive year.
